Packaging Resource Center: Show Coverage: HBA Global Expo
A redesigned conference program targets all aspects of the beauty business.
Driving innovation will be the focus of this year’s HBA Global Expo, say trade show organizers. The event will take place September 15-17 at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. In addition to new packaging by suppliers, the trade show will debut a reinvented conference program.
A brand-new conference track, called The Trends Conference, will predict new trends for 2010, including market drivers, buying patterns, and colors. Speakers will include those from the NPD Group and the Pantone Color Institute, as well as representatives from spas, manufacturers, and retail outlets.
The Private-Label and Co-Pack Conference is also new and will focus on everything related to private-label manufacturing and contract packaging.
X-Ceuticals is a two-day conference dedicated to the marriage of nutraceuticals and cosmeceuticals.
The Green Conference will include a presentation called Sustainable Packaging: Communication and Marketing Know-How, led by CPC Packaging group publisher James Wagner on Tues., September 15. Speakers include Andrew Dent, vice president, library and materials research, for Material ConneXion Inc.; Dagmar Luise Mohrbach, president of Jomo Thermomolding; and Nicole Smith, environmental director for Design & Source Productions Inc.
Horst Rechelbacher will also take part in several Green Conference sessions and is this year’s HBA keynote speaker. Rechelbacher founded Aveda, and is CEO and founder of Intelligent Nutrients, a certified-organic plant-based beauty line.

The HBA Marketing and Technical Conference will feature 36 sessions based on topics such as new distribution channels and demographic buying patterns. Technical sessions will cover how to reduce R&D costs without reducing quality, working with botanicals and nutricosmetics, and more.
As part of the Marketing and Technical track, CPC Packaging will moderate a conference, called Packaging That Sells: Design That Will Compel Consumers to Buy, on Wed., September 16. Speakers include Marcus Hewitt, chief creative officer for Dragon Rouge; Henry Renella, senior vice president of global package development for The Estée Lauder Companies; Michelle Scarcello, senior packaging engineer for Avon; Lisa Simpson, creative director of design for Pearlfisher; and Jill Tomandl, vice president of global product development and package design for Stila Cosmetics.
