PLA Packaging
Arrowpak can now injection mold compacts, small pots, and lipstick containers completely or partially from polylactic acid (PLA). When subjected to composting, PLA breaks down into carbon dioxide, water, and humus, a natural fertilizer, says the company.

100%-Recycled PET Bottles
Bormioli Rocco’s plastics division can now produce 100%-recycled PET cosmetic bottles that the company says have the same mechanical properties as virgin PET, as well as a similar transparency. Bright colors, effects, and decoration can be achieved on the recycled PET. The company also produces bioplastic and biodegradable bottles, including those made from PE and PLA.

PCR Packaging
Several lines of upscale bottles and jars made from PCR HDPE are now available from Cospack America. The PCR lines include the supplier’s popular Pure Touch series (pictured). According to the supplier, its source of PCR is premium grade.

PCR, Bio-Based
CSI/Cosmolab offers two green packaging options: postconsumer recycled (PCR) and bio-based packaging. PCR jars and caps are produced from recovered plastics once destined for landfills. PCR jars are available in 12 styles, while caps are available in three versions. All components come in a rustic matte black finish. The firm’s other eco-friendly packaging option is bio-based jars made from a hybrid blend of natural tapioca and starch and traditional petroleum-based PP.

Brushed-Aluminum Bottles
Elemental Container offers five sizes of brushed-aluminum stock bottles, ranging from 2 to 10 oz. Aluminum bottles are considered to be highly recyclable. Sprayers, pumps, and caps, all with 24-410 neck finishes, can complete the package. The supplier also recently added a sifter top for a 6-oz bottle. Plastic Cartons
HLP Clear Packaging Products can use recyclable raw materials, such as RPET and PP, to create its clear plastic cartons. The firm built its newest printing facility to include a renewable energy system that supports lighting and sewage needs. Other important changes include spot ventilation and advanced humidity and air control, which not only keeps room temperature consistent but also keeps dust and static electricity to an almost zero level, says the company.

Ecocert-Approved and More
Lumson reports that Ecocert has certified its Slim and Victoria packaging lines. The Victoria line is also available in a new material, researched and patented by Lumson, called 3D. Lumson says that 3D incorporates the castor oil of vegetable plants, has a low impact on the environment, and makes the surface of bottles look brilliant. Finally, Lumson offers paint with water-based coatings to decorate glass packaging.

Solar Power
New High Glass, the exclusive U.S. distributor for the Eurovetrocap packaging line (pictured), says that Eurovetrocap has converted its central warehouse in Agliana, Italy, to 100% solar power. New High Glass says that like Eurovetrocap, it is also looking into converting its U.S. warehouse in Florida to run on solar power.

Unit-Dose Packaging
Sonic Packaging has launched its Green Initiative program, in which the supplier combines recyclable and recycled packaging materials in both unit- and multidose packaging. As part of the program, a unit-dose delivery system has been introduced that uses RPET, or recycled soda bottle material.

PLA Pouch Film
Telmark Packaging has introduced several new pouches made from PLA. The pouches are suited for liquid, semiliquid, powder, and granular and tablet products. The company says that PLA film is compostable and maintains low gas and moisture transmission rates compared with standard films. The PLA film is also printable, heat-sealable, and FDA compliant.

Ingeo Packaging
Since 2004, Leoplast has focused on developing cosmetic packaging made of Ingeo bioplastic from NatureWorks LLC. For the last two years, Leoplast has supplied Cargo Cosmetics with its VegetalPlastic range of cosmetic packaging made from Ingeo for Cargo’s PlantLove cosmetics line. Colors used to decorate the packaging are derived from vegetable or mineral pigments, with no petrochemicals added. Leoplast, which also uses renewable electricity in its plant, has received Ecocert approval.

One-Piece Oval Tube
World Wide Packaging offers its eco-friendly one-piece oval tube. The body of the tube, including the head and the cap, incorporate a layer of PCR plastic. World Wide Packaging developed the tubes for the Almay and Good Stuff Organics brands. The one-piece tube design eliminates the online filling problems associated with backoff in conventional tubes with caps.
