Faces + Places: CEW’s Newsmaker Forum Features Elizabeth Arden Executive

E. Scott Beattie, chairman, president, and CEO of Elizabeth Arden, recently had an inspiring discussion with members of Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) about his role and the direction he has planned for the beauty empire in the future.

One question posed to Beattie was about how Elizabeth Arden differs from other beauty companies. “We never manufacture our own products,” said Beattie. “We outsource all of our distribution, with the exception of here in the United States .”

Beattie went on to explain how this makes business very scalable. “If we get into a situation like what is occurring now where our Asian business is growing rapidly, we can source product very flexibly around the world. We're not constrained by a legacy of manufacturing and distribution facilities that happen to be in the wrong parts of the world and are chewing up a lot of capital,” he said.

Since Beattie became president of Elizabeth Arden in 1996, its revenues have increased more than twentyfold. Its brand portfolio has grown to include a number of successful designer and celebrity fragrances. His focus has been on product innovation, brand development, and global expansion.
