Textured Coating

Accents Dimensional Coating for paper products enhances printed graphics. A clear textured coating is applied over printed graphics using a coating station on the supplier’s printing press. The enhanced graphics are accomplished in a single pass on the supplier’s sheet-fed offset or web-flexo printing presses. There is no need for additional printing passes, costly offline processes, or expensive embossing dies. The patent-pending technology can be used on a variety of packaging materials, including solid bleached sulfate (SBS) paperboard, metallized Mylar-laminated SBS, rigid-plastic folding carton grades, or paper wraps for setup boxes. The cartons pictured feature a texture comprising shiny, raised lines.

Ornate Décor

Gift sets for Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb and Antidote fragrances were packaged in metal boxes designed to look like safes. To decorate the boxes, a supplier created a medallion resembling the fragrances’ signature wax seal accessory. On the box, the medallion swivels upwards to reveal a functional keyhole. The key itself is held in place in a compartment on the back of the box. Another signature of the fragrance brand, black ribbons, was also used to decorate the box. Instead of actual grosgrain ribbons, the look of the ribbons was achieved using precise embossing that simulates the texture of grosgrain.

Photo-Quality Detail

Pixel is a supplier’s new printing technology that can create photo-quality images on tubes. Using either flexographic, offset, or silk-screen printing, Pixel can create precise images, as well as metallic and opaque effects. Because its printing is so detailed, Pixel can be used to replace secondary labels with direct printing.

Tube Printing

A firm offers in-house six-color in-line silk-screening for plastic tubes. The silk-screening process marries high-speed printing with excellent print registration from color to color. According to the company, the technology’s level of definition and crispness can’t be achieved with other printing processes. The firm also adds that silk-screening is more cost-effective than offset printing or pressure-sensitive labels.

Green Options

A packaging and decorating facility in the United States provides screen printing as an environmentally friendly way to decorate packages. The company says that screen printing allows packages to be recycled. All types of decorating, including labeling and hot stamping, are provided for small to large runs, and the firm says that it works with a variety of products in a broad array of shapes, sizes, and materials. In addition, an in-house graphics department can assist with artwork development.
