Packaging Resource Center: Show Coverage - Pack Expo International

This year’s event flags green exhibitors.

At this year’s Pack Expo International trade show, happening November 9–13 at Chicago’s McCormick Place, attendees will find an array of sustainability-oriented innovations offered by the show’s more than 2000 exhibitors. To make green suppliers easier to find, the trade show will place a “Pack Expo Green” icon next to each green supplier company listing on the show’s Web site, as well as in its compact Pocket Guide Directory available on-site.

Green options offered by exhibitors will range from bioplastics (polylactic acid films and the like), as well as other sustainable packaging materials; energy-efficient machinery; and lean-production solutions.

These topics will also be addressed at Pack Expo’s conferences. A sustainability track will be featured as part of each day’s program schedule. Topics will include source reduction, minimization of greenhouse gas emissions and waste, recycling and the use of recycled content, and lightweighting.

Each of the conference’s keynote sessions will also address sustainability, beginning with a special address by Amy Zettlemoyer-Lazar, packaging director of Sam’s Club and comanager of the Wal-Mart Sustainability Value Network. Her presentation is titled, “Keeping Score: How Wal-Mart and Its Suppliers Continue to Advance Packaging Change, Innovation, and Sustainability.” Zettlemoyer-Lazar will provide the audience with an update on the progress of Wal-Mart’s Sustainability Scorecard, as well as an update of changes to come. Additionally, Wal-Mart will staff a Wal-Mart Sustainability Scorecard information center throughout the show.

Pack Expo pavilions include the Containers and Materials Pavilion, the Showcase of Packaging Innovations, the RFID Pavilion, the Brand Protection Center, and the Contract Packaging Pavilion. For more information on exhibitors in these pavilions and on the show in general, visit www.packexpo.com.
