Textured Wrap
Lisa Hoffman, who launched a line of skin care products last year, chose a supplier’s Pellaq Crispel box wrap to decorate the cartons for her new line of fragrance oils called Variations. The wrap was produced in three colors, and its appearance and texture were inspired by the look of handcrafted Moroccan leather. The firm offers a wide range of covering materials in a variety of colors and finishes and with embossing techniques that create visual depth and an inviting feel.

Eco-Friendly Setup Box
An eco-friendly carton converter has introduced its SBR (Setup Box Replacement) carton, which offers the look and feel of a setup box but can be decorated directly in a single pass, without requiring a secondary decorating process or additional materials such as an outer wrap. The SBR carton offers clean lines, crisp edges, and sharp corners. Its tray and cover can be produced using a wide range of certified-sustainable papers and 100% renewable energy in a carbon-neutral facility. Because the SBR cartons don’t require secondary decorating processes, the firm says that their turnaround times are much shorter when compared with traditional setup boxes.

Tropical Appeal
A supplier applied numerous decorating techniques to the standard reverse-tuck cartons for Coty’s Nautica My Voyage for Her fragrance. All of the cartons feature 0.018 solid-bleached-sulfate holographic foil board, complemented by foil stamping and embossing. The graphics were offset printed in UV black and white inks, as well as one PMS color. These graphics were printed in-line together with a transparent blue UV gloss coating over the holographic portion of the carton that is meant to look like blue water. A dull varnish was applied to the lower white portion of the carton. Embossing this area with a crosshatch pattern for texture and stamping it with opaque white foil created the look of a sandy beach. The Nautica logo was hot stamped in pink foil. Blue stamping was also used.

Detailed Hot Stamping
Episciences Inc. asked a carton converter to create high-end folding cartons for its Epionce skin care line. Because the cartons were made from pearlescent paperboard, the supplier used foil stamping in order to achieve the fine-lined gold and black graphics. According to the supplier, printing with regular inks on pearlescent board is not ideal because the board affects regular printing inks, making dark colors look faded. By hot stamping, the firm was able to keep the graphics looking fresh. In addition, during production it used a Steuer FoilJet hot-stamping machine that uses a rotary stamping plate instead of a flat plate. This allowed the supplier to precisely stamp the graphic’s fine lines. All type, including a bar code, were foil stamped.

Advanced Flexographic Printing
Kao Brands chose a supplier’s InSight Visual Packaging for its John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze Clear Shine product. The InSight package combines printed, rigid plastic sleeves and injection-molded end caps. According to the supplier, the richness, depth, and clarity of the printing on the John Frieda package were made possible by combining a high-speed servo-driven web flexographic press and advanced flexographic printing techniques. The décor includes 10-color UV flexographic printing, two-color rotary silk-screening, and cold foil stamping, all of which were accomplished in a single pass.
