Bath and Body Products: New Natural Skin Care Lines
Frida Kahlo Skin Care
Although a relative newcomer to the natural bath and body market, the Frida Kahlo Skin Care line arrives complete with a history that puts it in a category all its own. The great Mexican painter Frida Kahlo created her own skin care products, fragrances, and aromatherapy elixirs, which she believed to be beneficial to her body. She wrote about them in her diaries and letters.
Antonio Sciortino, a Venezuelan-born aromatherapist, holistic cosmetologist, and CEO of Naturals Skin Care, had been manufacturing natural skin care products in South America for more than 15 years when he met with the Kahlo family in Mexico. They allowed him to read her private journal and letters, encouraging him to create a line of natural products based on the artist’s own recipes.
The results are as enigmatic as the paintings and life of the artist. The colors are as brilliant as those associated with the artist, as are the images that wrap around the containers. There is a signature “Omega-3” line that utilizes ingredients such as rosemary oil and Japanese green tea to promote healthy, rejuvenated skin. One of the artist’s self-portraits, along with her own signature, became the basis for the collection’s overall packaging.
Soap & Glory
Target, known for its hip mass marketing, has introduced several natural personal care product lines in the last two years. A new line in the store, Soap & Glory, is a new body care line from Bliss spa founder Marcia Kilgore that seems to target the young and trendy.
The company’s tagline, “At Soap & Glory, we believe that you shouldn’t have to spend an arm and a leg just to moisturize one (or the other or both),” is indicative of the cleverness behind this launch. The products’ packages feature retro colors such as pink and black and pop art-like designs with product titles such as Clean on Me Body Wash, The Scrub of Your Life, Blueberry Thrill Big Butter Body Butter, The Firminator All-Over Body Contouring Gel, and Sugar Crush Body Scrub Oil.
