Dior Beauty Honored with Art of Packaging Award

At the annual Art of Packaging Award gala in April, The Pratt Institute and Luxe Pack presented the award to Dior Beauty. Held at New York City’s University Club, the black-tie event generated $250,000 for Marc Rosen’s scholarship for graduate students of the Pratt In­stitute’s package design program. The program is taught by Rosen, a package designer.

Pamela Baxter, president and CEO of LVMH Perfumes and Cosmetics North America and president of Christian Dior Inc., accepted the award. More than 250 other beauty industry professionals attended the event.

Scholarship recipients were Patricia Abouchahine, Jaehee Jung, Yue Jin Kim, and Miguel Eunson.

 


Paris Hilton Dines with ICMAD

During the week of the Cosmoprof trade show in April, celebrity Paris Hilton attended a dinner held by the Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors (ICMAD) association in Bologna, Italy.

Hilton attended Cosmoprof to promote her new DreamCatchers line of hair extensions. “I think it’s very important to be supportive of small companies,” said Hilton, praising ICMAD for helping independent companies and small-business owners. “It’s very exciting to be here in Bologna for the biggest beauty show of the year,” she added.

The new office is staffed by a local team. Peter Yu has been named its general manager. Yu will report to Faqueer Ahmad, Risdon’s executive vice president international.



Gilles Vanhelst
Risdon International (Watertown, CT) has appointed Gilles Vanhelst European sales manager. According to Risdon International, Vanhelst’s appointment represents the first major move to expand Risdon’s business in Europe, following its recent investments in facilities in China.

“Gilles’s appointment is our first step in establishing Risdon as a major supplier and developer of cosmet­ic packaging in Europe,” said Eric Bigotte, Risdon’s executive vice president of global sales and marketing. “Our objective over the next 18 months is to explore the prospect of opening a manufacturing facility there to support customer product launches and development.”

 

Myriam Bourdon has succeeded Olivier de Pous as president of the beauty and health division of dispenser supplier Valois (Le Neubourg, France). De Pous has left the company to become president of the health and beauty division of AptarGroup (Saint German-en-Laye, France), the parent company of Valois.

 

Linda Zucker has joined the sales team at Cosmopak Corp. (Port Washington, NY).

 

Surefil LLC (Grand Rapids, MI), a contract manufacturer of liquid personal care products, has hired Robert Pero as executive vice president. Pero will be responsible for customer service, sales, marketing, brand development, order fulfillment, and strategy. The firm has also recruited Dennis Zietlow and Ben Velting to its sales team.

 

Dan Hughes

The Western Packaging Association has named Dan Hughes as Person of the Year. Hughes is senior account executive for label printer and converter WS Packaging Group (Green Bay, WI). He is a 27-year veteran of the packaging industry.

 

Aluminum container supplier CCL Container (Whitehouse, NJ) has appointed Charlie Herrmann vice president of sales and marketing. Herrmann is responsible for CCL Container’s North American sales force.

 

Randy G. Woelfel

Bioplastics supplier Cereplast Inc. (Hawthorne, CA) has named Randy G. Woelfel president and COO. He reports directly to Frederic Scheer, the firm’s chairman and CEO.

In other news, in April, Cereplast opened its European headquarters in France to capitalize on what it says is growing demand for sustainable plastics in Europe. This division is headed by Jerome Raphanaud, who has joined the company as senior vice president, Europe.

 

Alberto-Culver Co. (Melrose Park, IL) has appointed Gina Boswell president of global brands. Formerly from Avon, Boswell will oversee brands such as Alberto VO5, Tresemmé, St. Ives, and Nexxus.

 

Limited Brands Inc. (Columbus, OH) has named Martin Waters executive vice president, international. Previously, Waters was managing director and North American CEO for Boots Retail International, the United Kingdom’s leading health and beauty retailer.

In other company news, Shashi Batra has been appointed president of Victoria’s Secret Beauty. He was one of the original founding members of Sephora USA.

 

Jean-Jacques Lebel has been promoted to the position of executive vice president, consumer products, L’Oréal. He succeeds Patrick Rabain, who retired after 34 years of employment with the company. Nicolas Hiéronimus will succeed Lebel as managing director of L’Oréal’s Professional Products division.

 

Hair care company Oloff Beauty has appointed Stephan Scheinert vice president and director of sales development.

 

Beauté Prestige International (BPI) USA, a subsidiary of Shiseido, has named Nicholas Munafo president. Formerly from Procter & Gamble’s prestige products division, Munafo succeeds Louis Desazars, who left BPI in February to head NARS Cosmetics.
