Steam Tunnel
A large-duty, flexible steam tunnel shrinks sleeves at slow to moderate speeds that are adjustable within a broad range. The KST 55-710 adjusts for steam volume, flow, and nozzle position in a new, compact design. Steam can be applied to precise points on a package for best-possible aesthetics and to reduce risk of bottle distortion. Containers can be filled or empty; the 55-710 accommodates round, oval, and square packages. PVC, PETG, OPS, and PLA films in gauges as thin as 40 µm are compatible. PDC International Corp., Norwalk, CT.
UV Barrier
A new version of a supplier’s tamper-evident shrink sleeve is designed to protect products against UV rays. Made from the supplier’s proprietary film, the Seelcap sleeve is suited for products that are free of preservatives or rich in natural ingredients. The sleeve’s design features tamper-apparent perforations and a tab that makes opening easy. Sleever International, Morangis, France.
Shrink Sleeves
Bath & Body Works’ Temptations line required six different PETG sleeves for two bottle sizes. Six original labels were designed with a tropical feel thanks to graphics that include palm trees and beach scenes. The front of each label has a printed metallic logo. Each sleeve features eight colors. Ameri-Seal Inc., Chatsworth, CA.
Flexographic Printing
A supplier flexographically printed tags for a line of aromatic candles from Crabtree and Evelyn. The supplier offers both flexographic and digitally printed labels. Although the company recommends digital printing for smaller printing runs, it says that flexographic printing is typically better for larger runs because printing speeds are much faster, and thus more cost-effective for large orders. For smaller runs, digital printing’s plateless technology reduces setup time. It also produces quality prototypes and works well for printing labels for multiple product SKUs. Dion Label Printing Inc., Westfield, MA.
Conveyor/Puck Labeling
Using a conveyor/puck system, labels can be applied to package parts with sizes ranging from 25 to 110 mm in circumference. Capable of operating at speeds of up to 100 pieces per minute, the system can label containers such as jars, bottles, vials, and ampules, including those with irregular shapes. Labels ranging in widths of 25 to 100 mm can be applied. Packaging Associates Inc., Randolph, NJ.
Multipack Sleeves
A supplier created a promotional shrink sleeve to package together multiple products for Boots, a line sold in the United Kingdom. The sleeve wraps together shampoo and conditioner bottles. The sleeve was designed to mask uneven fill lines, resist blemishes with reverse printing, and provide added product protection. Overnight Labels Inc., Deer Park, NY.
