On Display--Caps and Closures
Self-Orienting Cap
New technology was developed to create the cap for Revlon’s Flair fragrance bottle. Decorative grooves run vertically up and down the fragrance’s hourglass-shaped bottle. Matching grooves on the cap needed to align precisely with the grooves on the bottle. To accomplish this, the cap supplier developed a patent-pending self-orienting system for the bottle’s cap and collar so that regardless of how they were placed on the bottle, their grooves would perfectly align with the bottle’s grooves. Produced in sizes of 15, 50, and 100 ml, the caps were molded in clear Surlyn. The polypropylene collar was metallized with a gold finish and UV-lacquered for scratch protection. Caps and Pumps
A packaging distributor’s range of closures includes sprayers, pumps, droppers, aerosols, and closures featuring tamper-evident and child-resistant designs. Stock and custom designs are offered in an array of sizes, styles, colors, and materials. Celon and shrink bands are available as well. For decorating, the distributor can perform in-house services such as labeling, screen printing, and ACL glass printing. Kaufman Container Co., Cleveland.
Metal Closures
The Prairie line of metal closures is designed to complement a supplier’s bottles and jars. The closures are in stock and ready to be delivered. They are offered in a variety of finishes, including shiny and matte, and in colors such as silver and gold. Various sizes are available. The company provides matching jars and bottles in metal, glass, and plastic. Cospack America Corp., Edison, NJ.
Cap Range
To complement its standard and custom bottles, a supplier offers a range of polypropylene caps. Styles include flip-top, screw-on, snap-on, push-pull, and disc-style designs. To create different looks, the company offers injection molding in various colors, hot stamping, matte coating, and metallizing, as well as smooth and ribbed finishes. Companies can choose from round, oval, square, rectangular, and custom shapes. Arminak & Associates Inc., Azusa, CA.
Polo Cap
A supplier of plastic and metal components produced the polypropylene cap for the Polo Explorer fragrance bottle. The brand’s logo—a detailed illustration of a polo player—was embossed on top of the cap. Ribs were molded on the side of the cap and contrast with the orange polypropylene ring that sits on the bottle’s neck. Axilone, New York City.
Flip-Top Jar Cover
Flip-top jar lids eliminate the need for customers to unscrew a lid from a jar. The lids are available for a supplier’s 4- and 8-oz low-profile PET jars. They are offered in 70/400 and 89/400 neck finishes. The biinjection-molded polypropylene single-piece lids feature a crab-claw sealing system. Caps are available in a range of custom colors. PVC jar discs can be added to help seal product in a container during shipping. O. Berk Co., Union, NJ.
Clear Surlyn
A clear Surlyn cap was fashioned for three of Victoria’s Secret’s Dream Angels scents: Heavenly, Divine, and Desire. The cap features a mirror-polished surface that bears a crystal-like appearance. The cap’s heavy walls enhance the color and metallic effect of the fragrances’ gold, pink, and lavender pumps, which can be clearly seen through the cap. The cap was provided for the fragrances’ 125- and 250-ml sizes. Risdon International, Watertown, CT.
Modified Design
A supplier was asked to duplicate a fragrance overcap that was originally produced by a different supplier. The multifaceted cap fits over a silver collar and a fine-mist sprayer. The cap was engineered to snap onto the collar and maintain a low profile. Berlin Packaging LLC, Chicago.
