Show Coverage: Luxe Pack Monaco
The premier show for luxury packaging returns to Monte Carlo.
As Luxe Pack Monaco celebrates its 20th anniversary on October 23–26, more than 300 exhibitors will show off their latest luxury packaging goods. Items to be displayed include bags, bottles, caps, cartons, compacts, dispensers, jars, paper, ribbons, raw materials, sample packaging, tubes, textiles, and accessories.
Luxe Pack Monaco aims to help brand marketers find ways to manufacture their lavish packaging designs. With this goal in mind, speakers at the trade show will focus on several hot issues facing the luxury packaging sector.
One issue is sustainability. On Thursday the 25th, package designer Marc Rosen will moderate a roundtable discussion titled Eco Echo, the Return of Sustainable Luxury. Panelists will include fashion designer Linda Loudermilk and Brenda Brock, founder and CEO of the Farmaesthetics skin care brand.
On Friday the 26th, Catherine Ronge of French design firm agence O2 will present How to Arouse Innovation and Differentiation through a Packaging Eco-Design Process. Ronge will discuss what designers can do to lessen the impact of packaging on the environment, while still ensuring that packaging evokes luxury.
Luxe Pack conferences will also focus on the state of the luxury market. Speaker Véronique Liabeuf of design firm Dragon Rouge will talk about the future of the luxury market. Richard William of the firm William Murray Ham will discuss what the luxury beauty market can learn from other premium product markets. Anne Lavaud of Formes de Luxe magazine will present a session called Packaging and e-Commerce. For a list of all Luxe Pack Monaco conferences, visit the show’s Web site at www.luxepack.com.
Other conferences include Integrating Old Packaging in the Development of New Products; Sensory Marketing and Design, which focuses on point-of-sale merchandising; and Luxury and Man, which is about marketing luxury products to men.
Luxe Pack’s Trends and Market Observer event will also return, at which industry experts will analyze current trends in packaging.
The entire event will be held at Monaco’s Grimaldi Forum. Show hours are from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. For more information, or to register to attend, visit the trade show’s Web site.
EXHIBITOR PRODUCTS
Click-On Pump
A new feature called Clikit is now offered on a supplier’s Melodie dispenser. Clikit is an alternative to crimp pumps. It can be clicked onto a bottle for optimum ease and speed of assembly on filling lines. The pump system also minimizes the components required for assembly because the ferrule and the cover are supplied preassembled. MeadWestvaco Calmar, Barcelona, Spain.
Glass Bottle Range
A glass company specializes in producing fragrance bottles. For the new Marc O’Polo Pure Green fragrances, glass bottles were created with textures resembling blades of grass. The men’s bottle features a square base and deep-green iridescent glass, while the women’s features a conical shape and light-green glass. Color was added to the glass using feeder coloring. Gerresheimer AG, Düsseldorf, Germany.
Minima Kit
The Minima Kit is a supplier’s newest portable packaging solution. The compact includes two stacked product pans. A hinge allows the top pan to lift up, providing access to the bottom pan. The SAN/ABS molded components are very durable. Throughout 2007, the company has also been developing a wide selection of delivery systems for liquid, powder, and lip gloss that are designed to provide additional application benefits. These designs will also be showcased at Luxe Pack Monaco. HCT Packaging, Bridgewater, NJ.
Trends in Zamac
A supplier can produce complex designs in Zamac. Pictured are three Zamac packages that were created for the Hugo Boss, Yves Saint Laurent, and Donna Karan beauty brands. As a trend, the company notes an increased use of Zamac and aluminum to adorn fragrance packaging. The supplier recently created an aluminum shell that covers 90% of the fragrance bottle for Abercrombie & Fitch’s new Proof fragrance. For a recently launched Hollister-brand fragrance, the supplier created an aluminum shell that covers 100% of the bottle. Finally, the new Gwen Stefani fragrance bottle features a polished-gold glossy aluminum cap that covers 75% of the fragrance bottle. Qualipac Group, Wayne, NJ.
No Metal Parts
To accommodate preservative-free product formulas with sensitive, natural, or biotechnological ingredients, a company has developed a dispenser with several high-tech features. The dispenser features the supplier’s newest generation of cartridge, which is designed to be free of metal parts, making it compatible with many product formulations. Ing. Erich Pfeiffer GmbH, Radolfzell, Germany.
Hidden Seams
For Lancôme’s new Hypnôse Homme fragrance, a supplier created a bottle with a twisted shape. According to the company, the project presented many tooling challenges in order to produce the mold seams on the bottle’s edges, rather than on its smooth panels. Bormioli Rocco USA, New York City.
Glass Packaging
A leader in the production of glass bottles for the fragrance and cosmetics industry is widely recognized for its technical expertise and innovative forming and decorating capabilities. The company also offers the services of its laboratory, L’Atelier de Création. Saint-Gobain Desjonquéres, New York City.
Victoria Line
The Victoria bottle line features sizes ranging from 100 to 250 ml. Bottles can be provided with a soft-touch finish, a pump, and an overcap, including the supplier’s Joli overcap. Bottles can also be produced with an innovative “three-dimensional” effect, which is achieved using two plastic layers glued together. Both the outer and inner layers can be decorated to give graphics a shadowed effect. Lumson S.p.A., Capergnanica, Italy.
Podium Box
A patent-pending box is suited for housing and displaying fragrance bottles. The Podium Box operates like a lipstick mechanism. A rotating base causes the box’s lid to lift up and an inner platform, on which a fragrance bottle sits, to elevate. The box can be covered with various substrates, including leather and textile. Cosfibel, New York City.
