Show Coverage: HBA Global Expo
The trade show offers a new name and a lot more.
HBA Global Expo has undergone a makeover for its 15th anniversary. Show officials have reorganized the upcoming September event into Marketing, Technical, and Naturals divisions to distinguish the show’s three key areas. “Attendees will be able to spend their time at the event more efficiently,” says Jay Gorga, event director.
Attendees will find packaging innovations in the Marketing area. Exhibitors in this sector will include leading suppliers of prestige and mass-market packaging components and services, including glass, plastic, metal, pumps, delivery systems, labels, decorating, point-of-purchase displays, and design services.
HBA’s Marketing Conference Program, which will be held throughout the show, will feature numerous seminars presented by leaders in the packaging industry. A sustainable packaging conference will be led by speakers from Wal-Mart and the Environmental Protection Agency as well as Esteé Lauder vice president John Delfausse. There will also be several conferences on package design, including Display and Design: The Art of Sudden Impact, and Meet the Package Designers: What You Need to Know About the Creative Process. Other conference topics include Maximizing the Performance of Your Packaging Lines, and Labeling and Decorating: New Ideas.
On Wednesday, September 19, CPC Packaging will moderate a session on contract packaging. Speakers at this event will be Douglas Miller, product and operations manager of Beauty Avenues; Rihaz C. Chughatta, executive vice president of Equity Packaging Inc.; and Johan Pot, vice president of business development for NFI–Quick-Pak.
Other key HBA features will be Fragrance Business, a new educational conference and product pavilion dedicated to marketers of fragrance products. In addition, a new product showcase gallery has been designed to make it easier for attendees to find out what is being announced or showcased at HBA. This display will include primary and secondary packaging materials and private-label offerings.
Taking place September 18–20 at the Jacob K. Javits convention center in New York City, HBA 2007 will feature more than 40 conference sessions and 650 exhibitors. For more information on the show or to register to attend the show, visit www.hbaexpo.com.

Airless Dispenser
A dispensing systems supplier recently introduced an airless package whose design is based on its successful Aria low-output dispenser. The new Aria Airless dispenser is ideal for highly viscous, oxygen-sensitive cosmetic and personal care products. Superior barrier properties of the cylinder, combined with a “piston-follower” system, protect a product from oxygen. An optional elastomer valve at the orifice provides additional protection from oxygen. This valve also prevents product from drying out and clogging the orifice. In addition, contamination from metal is prevented due to the supplier’s Pure Path technology, which keeps a dispenser’s fluid pathway metal-free. The Aria Airless is offered in both 15- and 30-ml sizes. Line extensions are planned, and the packages can be decorated with silk-screening, hot stamping, vacuum metallizing, and opaque, transluscent, and pearlescent colors. MeadWestvaco Calmar, City of Industry, CA.
