Advanced Flexographic Printing
Kao Brands chose MeadWestvaco’s InSight Visual Packaging for its John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze Clear Shine product. The InSight package combines printed, rigid plastic sleeves and injection-molded end caps. According to the supplier, the richness, depth, and clarity of the printing on the John Frieda package were made possible by combining a new, high-speed servo-driven web flexographic press and advanced flexographic printing techniques. The printing includes 10-color UV flexographic printing, two-color rotary silk-screening, and cold foil stamping, all of which can be accomplished in a single pass. MeadWestvaco Health & Beauty Packaging, New York City.
Glittery Effect
Victoria’s Secret gift set cartons were embellished with custom color-matched glitter—just one of the decorative, tactile laminates offered by the supplier. The glitter can be thermally applied to cover an overall surface area, or it can be spot-applied for special effect. The cartons’ grosgrain ribbons were also custom color-matched. The cartons also feature hidden magnetic closures. IBC Shell Packaging, Lake Success, NY.
Paper Tube
An originally designed paper tube carton was produced for DaLish Cosmetics. The paper tube is completely recyclable and features vegetable inks on its printed wrap. In addition to being visually appealing, the supplier’s paper tubes are designed to ultimately protect products. The firm’s technical team offers assistance in custom designing both round and oval cartons to fit brands’ needs. Robinson Paperboard Packaging, Mississauga, ON, Canada.
Unique Die-Cutting
A supplier produced a carton with unique die-cutting for Love, Chic Baby, a collection of luxurious baby fragrances. The top and bottom ends of the carton’s sleeve feature scalloped die-cutting. A heart-shaped die-cut was created on the carton’s top panel, as well as on the liner insert. The sleeve was further enhanced with multilevel embossing around the Chic Baby logo. Other graphics were achieved by offset printing in three colors in-line with UV gloss coating and a pearlescent coating, which added eye-catching glittery effects. The liner features front and backside printing with an overall satiny varnish. Diamond Packaging, Rochester, NY.
Oval Design
A supplier has introduced an oval version of its DisplayPak paper tube. In addition to the oval shape, brands can choose from a range of DisplayPak sizes and shapes to complement their products. Custom-designed interior platforms display and protect a product. On the carton’s outside, decoration can be added using techniques such as foil stamping and embossing. As an added bonus, DisplayPak cartons are made from 100% paperboard for sustainability. Chicago Paper Tube & Can Company, Inc., Chicago.
Clear Cartons
A company specializes in producing eye-catching, transparent cosmetic cartons. Material options include PVC, PET, and polypropylene. Item styles range from folding cartons to blister packaging and die-cut plastic sheets. Decoration can be added using offset printing, silk-screening, hot stamping, and frosted finishes. HLP Clear Packaging Products Inc., Torrance, CA.
Transparent and Trendy
Happy Hair’s hair care products target young and trendy consumers. For a stylish, modern look, the brand chose PET folding cartons with a transparent, colorful finish. The cartons were printed in four colors, including vibrant green and orange, using UV screen printing. To crease the cartons’ panels, the supplier applied its Soft Crease feature that allows cartons to be easily creased and assembled on most automatic filling lines. Seufert Transparente Verpackungen GmbH, Rodgau, Germany.
