On May 4, the Cosmetic Industry Buyers and Suppliers (CIBS) association hosted its annual spring luncheon at the New York Hilton.
Jerry Ruud has been named vice president of sales and marketing for Berry Plastics’ (Evansville, IN) Rigid Closed Top Personal Care division. Berry Plastics is the parent company of tube supplier Tubed Products LLC (Easthampton, MA).
Ruud first joined Berry Plastics in 1993. He has 14 years of sales experience in the plastic packaging industry.
Berry Plastics offers a full range of plastic packaging, including tubes, bottles, caps, jars, and pails for the cosmetic and personal care industries.
Martin Maciossek has been appointed executive director of customer relations for Seidel GmbH + Co. (Marburg, Germany). Seidel develops and manufactures aluminum components for cosmetic packaging.
Having been part of Seidel’s sales team for four years, Maciossek is familiar with the company and its customers. Seidel says that customers can now contact Maciossek for all matters concerning customer relations management.
Pat Harrington
Global Closure Systems (GCS; Libertyville, IL), a supplier of plastic and metal closures and dispensers, has announced that Pat Harrington has joined GCS’s Zeller Plastik USA division to head strategy and market development. Her responsibilities will directly support Zeller Plastik’s focus on developing innovative products and entering new markets.
Harrington’s previous experience includes strategy and marketing leadership positions with USA Strategies and Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. Throughout her career, she has managed a variety of functions, including integrated marketing strategy, market research, marketing materials, Web and online marketing, trade shows and exhibits, advertising, and sales support.
Cereplast Inc. (Hawthorne, CA), a manufacturer of bio-based renewable plastics, has made two new appointments. First, Alec Pettigrew has been named senior vice president of international sales and marketing, Asia and Europe. Pettigrew will oversee Cereplast’s first international sales office in Hong Kong.
“The growth of international markets and a global focus on environmentalism make international expansion a necessity for Cereplast,” said Frederic Scheer, Cereplast’s chairman and CEO. “Cereplast’s strategy is to promote its resin both toward converters and brand owners in a global market.”
Cereplast also anticipates expanding its presence in Europe later this year. The company’s bio-based plastics are used as a substitute for petroleum-based plastics in all major converting processes, including injection molding, thermoforming, blow molding, and extruding.
Shriram Bagrodia
Cereplast’s other new appointment is Shriram Bagrodia as director of research and development, blends and chemistry. With more than 30 years of experience in polymer science and research, Bagrodia will lead development of new resin formulas. His main focus will be to improve blends and polymeric compounds to introduce new families of bio-based resins.
Prior to joining Cereplast, Bagrodia was principal research engineer at Eastman Chemical Co., where he directed multifunctional programs involving research and market development. In his position, he received 53 U.S. patents in barrier packaging, nanocomposites, novel fiber products, processes, and polymer blends. Bagrodia holds a PhD in chemical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and a master of science in chemical engineering from Princeton University.
Marcus Hewitt
Brand and design consultancy firm Dragon Rouge LLC (New York City) has appointed Marcus Hewitt chief creative officer. This is a newly created position. Hewitt has more than 25 years of experience as a designer. He has been responsible for identity and packaging programs for clients such as Unilever and Gillette. Most recently, he was the chief creative officer and managing partner of Sterling Brands (New York City), an independently owned design consultancy firm for areas such as packaging.
Zorbit Resources Inc. has expanded its New York offices to include its new Zorbit Creative Services division. The new division will be led by Paul Turzio, who will be director of art, production, and comprehensives. He will report to Zorbit’s president, Tom Butkiewicz.
Zorbit also announced that it has installed a new large-format Canon digital color printer, combined with a Universal Laser System cutting machine, which will give the New York office the ability to shorten the development process for rigid boxes and to improve sampling lead times and in-house die-line creation. “Speed-to-market is an important factor contributing to the success of our clients’ brands,” said Butkiewicz.
Sandra Seperack has joined Eagle Flexible Packaging (Chicago) as customer service manager. Eagle Flexible Packaging is a flexible packaging printer that specializes in printing, laminating, and converting. Its products include roll-fed film for form-fill-seal packaging, shrink-sleeve labels, stand-up pouches, and stick packs.
Jonathan Asher
Sterling Brands has appointed Jonathan Asher executive vice president. Asher will be responsible for overseeing client services for both new business development and account management. He has more than 20 years of experience in consumer goods marketing. Most recently, he was president of the New York office of Dragon Rouge.
Vince Spinnato
SeaCliff Beauty & Packaging Laboratories (Irvine, CA) has recruited Vince Spinnato to oversee the company’s newest service division for private-label development. His official title is director of product development and cosmetic chemist.
Spinnato has created numerous private-label celebrity beauty lines for both the mass and prestige markets as well as lines for dermatologists and plastic surgeons. He has worked on private-label developments for retail companies including Victoria’s Secret Beauty, Bath & Body Works, GAP, Banana Republic, and Estée Lauder.
Randy Molen
R.A. Jones & Co. (Covington, KY) has a new national account manager for West and Midwest sales. Randy Molen will serve customers in the cosmetic and personal care markets and will be based in Cincinnati. R.A. Jones is a worldwide provider of packaging equipment and services.
