Avon Products Inc. announced two key hires by its global marketing team. Joe Feczko has joined the division as group vice president of global design, while Donna Campanella is now executive director of global media.
“The addition of Joe Feczko and Donna Campanella underscores Avon’s commitment to elevating our brand image and increasing our investment in advertising—important components of our Sustainable Growth turnaround plan,” said Geralyn Breig, senior vice president and global brand president of Avon.
In his newly created position, Feczko is responsible for Avon’s global image, overseeing everything from corporate identity and package design to creative development of Avon’s brochure. As executive director of global media, Campanella oversees Avon’s media planning and buying process.
Following its separation from Sally Beauty Holdings Inc. and its establishment as a separate, publicly traded company, Alberto-Culver Co. has named three new directors to its board: Katherine S. Napier, Thomas A. Dattilo, and George L. Fotiades. Alberto-Culver’s president and CEO, V. James Marino, has also been appointed to the board.
In other news, Alberto-Culver will merge its two marketing units into one. The company will also reduce its worldwide workforce by approximately 90 employees. Regarding the downsizing, Marino said, “This represents a right-sizing, looking primarily at those areas related to services we were maintaining in support of Sally and corporate activities that could be scaled back to match the needs of a smaller company.”
The company also said that it will close its manufacturing facility in Dallas by the end of 2007. It plans to open a new manufacturing facility in Jonesboro, AR. Construction will begin early this year, and production will begin in early 2008.
TricorBraun has moved its design and engineering department to a larger studio in Chicago. The new facility is double the size of the original facility.
“Our move to the 5800-sq-ft studio was necessary to accommodate the company’s growth,” says Craig Sawicki, executive vice president.
Kurt Nyberg
Kurt Nyberg has been appointed CEO of M&H Plastics USA (Winchester, VA). Nyberg joins M&H from Rexam PLC, where he served as vice president of sales and marketing.
Ilene Gordon
Ilene Gordon has been appointed senior vice president of Alcan Inc. and CEO of Alcan Packaging (Paris). Previously president of Alcan’s Food Packaging Americas division, Gordon succeeds Christel Bories, who has been named president and CEO of Alcan Engineered Products.
Mike Schmitt, former president of Alcan’s Food and Specialty Flexibles Packaging division, Americas, replaced Gordon as president of the Food Packaging Americas division.
Kaufman Container Co. (Cleveland) has relocated its corporate headquarters. The new 180,000-sq-ft facility allowed Kaufman to consolidate its three Cleveland operations in one building.
According to Kaufman, the move to a new headquarters is part of the company’s plans for expansion. “This new facility gives us an opportunity to be more cost-effective and efficient in meeting our customers’ growing requirements,” says Ken Slater, Kaufman president.

MeadWestvaco Corp. (New York City) has added James M. Kilts to its board of directors. Previously, Kilts served as vice chairman of Procter & Gamble (P&G), a position he assumed after P&G merged with Gillette Co. Before 2005, he was chairman, president, and CEO of Gillette.
Beverly Hirschhorn
Beverly Hirschhorn, founder of graphic design firm Hirschhorn & Young Graphics (New York City), passed away on November 28, 2006. The announcement was made by the firm’s CEO, Holly Young.
Jan Erik Kuhlmann
Multivac Inc. (Kansas City, MO) has appointed Jan Erik Kuhlmann president and CEO. Prior to joining Multivac, Kuhlmann served as president of Wolf-Tec Inc.
