Anisa Brushes Twinkle This Holiday Season

Atlanta-based brush supplier Anisa International debuted a trendy new look for cosmetic brushes, just in time for the holiday season. Recently, the company created jewel-bedecked brushes for Sonia Kashuk Beauty and Lola Cosmetics.

The Sonia Kashuk brushes are black and feature silver hot-stamped logos and shiny black ferrules adorned with clear rhinestones. Anisa also provided a black aluminum brush case that was decorated with clear rhinestones and an embossed logo. The interior of the case was lined with velvet.

The white pearlescent Lola Cosmetics brush handles feature red foil hot-stamped logos. Clear rhinestones adorn the brushes’ shiny red ferrules. A white box, also decorated with rhinestones, holds the brushes.

Germany Salutes DieterBakic’s Nivea Packages

Standard packaging supplier DieterBakicEnterprises (Munich) received a 2006 German Packaging Award for packages it redesigned and supplied for Beiersdorf’s Nivea Beauté brand. The annual awards are organized by the German Packaging Institute.



Formes de Luxe Honors Suppliers

On October 25 during the week of the Luxe Pack Monaco trade show, Formes de Luxe held its annual awards honoring outstanding beauty packaging achievements.

Valois received the best innovation of the year award for its Imagin sampler. Valois also received an award in the sampling category for the Imagin sampler it created for Estée Lauder.

Some of the other winners were Heinz Flaconnage for the Euphoria Calvin Klein bottle; Alcan Packaging Beauty for the Délices by Cartier closure and a tube for Very Irresistible for Men by Givenchy; DieterBakicEnterprises for the standard packaging for Au monoï de Tahiti by Corinne Farme; Dapy for a promotional Valentine’s Day package for Jean Paul Gaultier; and RPC Beauté for the Lancôme Color Fever lipstick package.

Rexam Airspray Announces Formulation Challenge Winner

Specialty chemicals provider Clariant Corp. (Charlotte, NC) was named the winner of supplier Rexam Airspray’s (Pompano Beach, FL) second annual Formulation Challenge. The competition asked entrants to innovate a new SPF or after-sun formulation that is compatible with Rexam Airspray’s nonaerosol instant-foam dispensers. The winner was announced on September 12 at the Health & Beauty America (HBA) expo.

Clariant’s winning entry was an SPF 30 formulation. According to Rexam Airspray, the formulation indicates the potential of using instant-foam dispensers in the sun care market.

An honorable mention went to Cognis France for an after-sun-care formula. Entries were judged on foam quality, ease of spread, absorption into the skin, and tactile appeal.

Rexam Goes Green

At the Luxe Pack trade show, Rexam (Suresnes, France) presented new makeup compacts injection molded from biodegradable and recyclable corn-based polylactic acid (PLA).

According to Rexam, the cost of the compacts is similar to that of traditional-resin compacts. The range of PLA packages includes lipstick and mascara containers and jars. The packages were created at Rexam’s U.S. facilities.

Cosmopak Updates Web Site

Cosmopak International Ltd. (London) announced it will launch a new Web site in January. The site will feature detailed specs on all the company’s products. According to Cosmopak president Walter Dwyer, it will serve as the company’s main selling tool.

More than 600 products will be showcased in eight categories. Samples can be sent the same day.

Axilone Innovates Insolence Cap

At the Luxe Pack trade show, supplier Axilone (New York City) showcased the Surlyn cap it created for Guerlain’s Insolence fragrance bottle.

Axilone used its Mold Flow technology to improve distribution of Surlyn throughout the cap and to avoid occlusion and flow lines on top of the cap. The logo, which decorates the cap’s top, was engraved into the mold.


DMI Sun Care Kit Is Hot

A sun care kit created by contract manufacturer DMI (Wharton, NJ) was a winner in the 2006 packagePrinting Excellence Awards in the flexible package, offset product packages/displays category. The Sudden Sun Therapy kit contains a three-step self-tanning system for the face and body.

The kit’s packaging was structurally designed and printed by Boutwell, Owens & Company, Inc. It was graphically designed by the 37 Design Group.

O. Berk Delivers Mama Mio Line

Cosmetic Packaging Group (Union, NJ), a division of O. Berk Co., created packages for Mama Mio, a line of maternity skin care products.

The supplier provided 1-, 2-, and 4-oz amber PET Boston Round bottles with dispensing caps and colorful labels.



HCT Opens Its First Factory

HCT Packaging (Bridgewater, NJ) has opened its first manufacturing facility in the Dong Guan province of Southern China. The facility offers injection molding, injection blow molding, and biinjection molding, as well as spraying. HCT will also continue to do business with the outside suppliers it currently works with.

“HCT’s strength has always been to predict change and to react quickly and creatively,” says Chris Thorpe, HCT’s president. “The only way to meet this challenge was to open our own facility.”

Topline Products Company, Inc. (Wayne, NJ), ranked 19th on a list compiled by NJBIZ of New Jersey’s 50 Fastest-Growing Companies in 2006.

Topline expanded into China more than 10 years ago and has seen double-digit growth in each of the past several years. In addition to its U.S. headquarters, Topline has offices in Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Taipei.





Lumson Introduces Victoria

At Luxe Pack Monaco, Lumson (Capergnanica, (CR) Italy) debuted its new Victoria line, which includes 125- and 200-ml plastic bottles, a 30-ml glass bottle, and a 50-ml jar.

The Victoria line features Lumson’s 3-D effect, which is achieved with two layers of plastic. Additional tampo printing can further lend a shadowy, 3-D appearance. A wide range of pumps and caps can also be provided.

PacSun Calls on Kaufman

For its Tilt teen girl’s fragrance, Pacific Sunwear asked Kaufman Container (Cleveland) to coordinate packaging production. The packaging was designed by HK Insights, while Kaufman sourced the components from various suppliers.

Two clear-glass bottles in sizes of 15 and 50 ml were supplied by Saint-Gobain Desjonquères (New York City). Rexam Dispensing Systems (Purchase, NY) supplied bronze color-matched low-profile pumps and anodized metal overcaps embossed with the Tilt logo.

Montebello Opens New Facility

In September, Montebello Packaging (Hawkesbury, ON, Canada) opened a new laminate tube facility in Lachine, QC, Canada.

The company manufactures aluminum, laminate, and custom-extruded tubes. The new facility is equipped with five laminate production lines.
