Show Coverage: HBA 2006
Cosmetic and personal care packaging professionals will find the newest packaging technologies at HBA Health & Beauty America. Set to take place on September 12–14 at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, the show will host more than 600 exhibitors and 50 conference sessions.
The packaging conferences include Meet the Package Designers: What You Need to Know about the Creative Process, Rigid and Flexible Packaging: New Trends and Technologies, Prestige Packaging within Your Budget, All You’ll Ever Need to Know about Dispensers, and Labeling and Decorating: New Ideas. Other conferences will focus on product marketing, product development, and point-of-purchase displays.
HBA has also introduced several new all-day conferences. One of these is Smart Packaging: Opportunities in Merchandising, Quality Control, and Brand Security. This session will provide an overview of emerging technologies such as RFID, EPC (Electronic Product Code), holograms, and 2-D bar codes.
HBA will also present its first annual regulatory summit. This all-day conference will be held Wednesday, September 13. It will take a look at the legislation, scientific technologies, and global regulatory changes that will impact the health and beauty markets. Among the topics to be covered is regulatory changes for personal care and cosmetic packaging.
Meyer R. Rosen, president of Interactive Consulting Inc., who is the chairman and organizer of the regulatory summit, says, “Featured specialists include experts on current and emerging global regulations, toxicologists, legal regulatory experts, companies providing services that meet the new and anticipated requirements of the regulations, major finished-goods manufacturers, ingredient suppliers, leading international consultants, and experts from The Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association.”
Other special events at HBA will be the show’s keynote speech, titled Brand-Building Innovations. Eric Thoreux, president of Coty Beauty Americas, will deliver this address at 9:00 a.m. on September 12.
Another highlight of the show will be HBA’s annual International Package Design Awards dinner. Scheduled for the evening of September 12 at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers, the event will honor companies and individuals who have made significant contributions to the beauty industry and to packaging innovation.

No-Drip Solution
Customers who pour products directly from a bottle often encounter the problem of residual liquid dripping down the bottle’s neck. To solve this problem, a supplier has designed a feature that breaks a product’s flow and draws liquid back into a bottle, preventing product from dripping. A company provided the lipstick container for Revlon’s Vital Radiance Moisture Boosting Lipcolor. The container’s slim base is made from anodized aluminum in a champagne color.
