CPC Packaging Launches Editorial Board
CPC Packaging magazine is proud to introduce our first-ever editorial advisory board. Going forward from this issue, our board members will help CPC Packaging’s editors ensure that our magazine continues to bring our readers the beauty packaging industry’s most relevant, up-to-date information.
We’d like to introduce our 2006 board members: Harry Bennett, Estée Lauder’s vice president of package engineering, package testing, and packaging operations; Jerrod Blandino, founder and creative director of Too Faced Cosmetics; perfumer and designer Christopher Brosius; Roger Caracappa, Estée Lauder’s executive vice president of global packaging, quality assurance, merchandising, corporate store design, and retail store operations; Jane Tarallo, senior global group creative director for Coty Inc.; and Jeff Wass, director of package engineering for Avon Products.
Harry Bennett
As vice president of package engineering, package testing, and packaging operations for Estée Lauder, Harry Bennett oversees technical packaging development for all of Lauder’s 18 independent brands. Among his many achievements, he has set the standards for Lauder packaging, including engineering requirements, value analysis specifications, and regulatory issues. He and his team have implemented more than 100 testing procedures and 20 corporate specifications for components, which every brand follows. In addition, Bennett evaluates new technology that lets Lauder drive new package development. He holds a master’s degree in chemistry and has worked in the cosmetics and toiletries industry since 1966, with companies such as Avon and L’Oréal.
Jerrod Blandino
As the founder and creative director of Too Faced Cosmetics, Jerrod Blandino is the creative force behind the $32 million brand that is sold in major retail outlets such as Sephora, Nordstrom, and Ulta. A former television sitcom actor, Blandino became a Saks Fifth Avenue makeup artist in 1993. He began custom blending products for his celebrity clientele and, in 1998, Too Faced Cosmetics was born. Today, Blandino is in charge of developing all of Too Faced’s products, packaging, and marketing text.
Christopher Brosius
Perfumer and designer Christopher Brosius is best known for the uniqueness of the scents he creates. The self-trained perfumer started his career at Kiehl’s and founded fragrance brand Demeter Fragrance Library in 1994. At Demeter, he created such famous scents as Dirt, Angel Food, and Snow. In 2002, he sold Demeter, and in July 2004, started his own fragrance company, Christopher Brosius Ltd., and opened the CB I Hate Perfume gallery. Brosius has won four FiFi awards and has been nominated for many others. In 2003, his fragrances were the first ever to be displayed in the Cooper-Hewitt Museum’s prestigious National Design Triennial exhibition.
Roger Caracappa
Roger Caracappa has spent his entire career as a member of the Estée Lauder family. Today, his title reads: executive vice president, global packaging, quality assurance, merchandising, corporate store design, retail operations. Caracappa’s achievements outside the company are many. For nine years, he served on the industry advisory board for the Fashion Institute of Technology’s (FIT) Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing program. Recently, he was appointed to the advisory board of FIT’s Department of International Trade and Marketing. He also serves on the advisory board of the International Package Design awards competition. In 2002, he was named Packaging Executive of the Year by HBA. In 2004, he was inducted into the New Jersey Packaging Executives Club Hall of Fame. He is also an active member of the Cosmetic Industry Buyers and Suppliers.
Jane Tarallo
Jane Tarallo, global group creative director for Coty Prestige US, has extensive experience in packaging, bottle design, production, and manufacturing for the cosmetics and fragrance industry. Tarallo directs U.S. global licensing initiatives for Coty and Lancaster, developing such Coty Prestige brands as Baby Phat, Celine Dion, and Nautica. She has also designed such Coty brands as Esprit Bath & Home, The Healing Garden, Adidas Adrenaline, Adidas Moves for Him and Her, Vanilla Fields, Gravity, Longing, Rimmell, and Calgon Bath & Body.
Jeffrey Wass
As the director of package engineering for Avon Products, Jeffrey Wass has a big job to do. He is responsible for managing global package development and engineering for Avon’s color, personal care, and Mark product lines. In this role, Wass must ensure that products and packages are developed to meet Avon’s stringent high-quality standards, while accommodating cost and timing requirements. He has worked in package engineering since 1985, and he holds a degree in package engineering from Michigan State University.
