Show Coverage
Luxe Pack Monaco
Luxe Pack, the trade show for luxury packaging, returns for its 18th edition in the lavish setting of Monaco. The show will be held November 2–5 at the Grimaldi Forum in the Principality of Monaco. Beauty product marketers looking to compete in the luxury market won’t want to miss this show.
Approximately 320 exhibitors and more than 5000 visitors are expected at this year’s show. Exhibitors will feature bags, bottles, caps, cartons, compacts, dispensers, jars, paper, pumps, ribbons, raw materials, sample packaging, tubes, textiles, and accessories. For a partial list of exhibitors, see the list starting at right.
Many conferences have been scheduled to take place during the show. On Wednesday, November 2, Jonathan Ford, a creative partner at brand design consultant PearlFisher, will provide insight on the future mindset of the luxury consumer and what it means for brands. On Thursday, November 3, Ute Von Buch, editor in chief of Creative Verpacken, will moderate a conference that will discuss how to give cosmetic packaging a distinctive look. Also happening on Thursday is a session moderated by Marc Rosen called Meet the Flankers: Planning Ahead for Those Inevitable Brand Extensions.
The trade show will also be the site of the final stage of the Monaco Luxe Pack Design Awards. Eight finalists from Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, the UK, and the United States will compete for the competition’s grand prize of 10,000 euros and a trophy. The winner will be announced on the last day of the show, Friday, November 4, following presentations made by the finalists in front of an international jury. For more information on the awards, see the story in this issue’s Business Beat section.
The 17th edition of Luxe Pack Monaco saw 5390 attendees. For more information on Luxe Pack Monaco, visit www.luxepack.com.

Good as Gold

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Avon’s color product line, the company has issued a commemorative-edition lipstick. The lipstick features a container with a cap and a base both molded in beige ABS material. Each piece was then lacquered in a metallic gold finish. An aluminum medallion debossed with a “100” logo was anodized in bright gold and placed on the cap. New Pump Design

A dispenser supplier has introduced a new pump called Cremosa. Cremosa is available in two versions, one to dispense lotion and another to dispense gel products. The lotion pump is available in a neck finish of 24-410 and dispensing doses of 0.28 or 0.50 ml, while the gel pump is available in a neck finish of 20-410 and a dispensing dose of 0.20 ml. Both pumps are lockable and available in plastic and metal finishes. Pfeiffer Vaporisateurs S.a.r.l., Radolfzell, Germany.
Eye-Catching Effects

Eye-catching, special-effects materials are designed to give packages stronger brand identity and a luxury look. These materials can add pearlescence, shimmer, lustrous color, and sparkle to packaging. The supplier has added the new DiamondFire and Moonstone films to its GemTallic collection of Aurora special-effect films. In addition, the company’s Firemist pigment line now includes a unique turquoise shade. Lumina Copper and Russet pigments add rich, earthy colors, while the new Lumina Turquoise offers visual effects and enhanced reflection. Finally, the company offers its award-winning Rightfit organic color pigments. Engelhard Corp., Iselin, NJ.
Round Sachet

A sample-packaging supplier has introduced its newest development—a round sachet housing applicator pads. The Beauty Pad sachet houses round, die-cut pads that can be pretreated with a brand’s product. The sachet comprises a peelable laminate that allows the user to easily open the sachet. Fantastic Fantasy Pump

Launched by Elizabeth Arden this September, the Fantasy Britney Spears fragrance bottle features a faux-diamond studded collar and a dispenser. The collar, which is bedecked with tiny green crystals, was a joint effort between the supplier and Swarovski, the crystal supplier. The supplier also provided its super-low-profile pump for the 30-, 50-, and 100-ml bottles. Rexam Dispensing Systems, a div. of Rexam Beauty & Pharma, Purchase, NY.
Cream Dispenser

A cream dispenser is designed to be a hygienic and convenient application system for body care products. Fragrance, Cosmetic Pumps

A supplier has introduced Elegance, a low-profile pump. The Elegance pump has a stacking height of just over 11 mm. The low profile allows designers more flexibility in creating package designs. In addition to its small size, Elegance offers other benefits including a good fine-mist spray suited for fragrance dispensing. Emsar, Stratford, CT.
Sample Sprayers

A supplier has introduced Easy, an elegant vial for fragrance sampling. The Easy vial is available with two closures: the Easy Spray pump or the Easy Cap. The Easy Spray’s pump keeps its mechanical components out of sight. It also prevents the fragrance from coming into contact with gasket material or the pump’s metal components. The Easy Cap has a built-in stem to allow users to easily dab on fragrance. Valois of America, Congers, NY.
Kimono Bottles

The Kimono bottle is one of a supplier’s newest standard packaging options. Designed with clean, elegant curves, the 250-ml bottle is available in a wide range of materials and with numerous decorating options. It is designed to complement the supplier’s Kyoto line of tottles and jars. For closures, the bottle can be paired with the supplier’s Lupo flip-top cap or with a large variety of other closures.
