World Wide Packaging Inc. (Florham Park, NJ) has introduced a streamlined silver compact suited for wet and dry products. Designed with a push-button, the compact can be made from ABS and/or SAN. Both the compact’s cover and base are available in various colors.
The supplier has also added three new oval lip gloss containers to its line. Available in a range of sizes, the PETG containers feature plastic caps that can be molded in various solid colors.
Berlin Packaging Lets Brands Mix and Match
Berlin Packaging (Chicago) has launched a new online catalog that lets users mix and match the supplier’s packaging components on screen.
Located on the company’s Web site at www.berlinpackaging.com, the catalog includes dozens of PET and high-density polyethylene personal care bottles and jars custom designed by the company’s Studio One Eleven design division. It also includes hundreds of stock closures.
Hot Look for Disney Sun Pals
Disney chose heat-shrinkable sleeves from Ameri-Seal Inc. (Chatsworth, CA) to adorn the bottles for its new Sun Pals line of bubble-gum-scented sun-care products. PETG sleeves in five different designs were rotogravure printed in nine colors each.
According to Ameri-Seal, the bottles’ narrow necks required film with a wide range of shrinkage, which is why PETG film was used instead of traditional PVC.
Kaufman Offers Soft-Touch Design
Kaufman Container (Cleveland) has introduced a new 8-oz high-density soft-touch polyethylene bottle.
The bottle features a 24-410 neck finish to accommodate Saint-Gobain Calmar’s MD-3200 dispenser. The package is suited for personal care products such as a facial astringent. It can be silk-screened or labeled by the supplier’s special services division.
Green for Teens
M&H Plastics (Beccles, Suffolk, UK) provided its tapered Vogue bottle for the Fruiteen hair care line for teens. The bottle was used for the line’s moisturizing shampoo, strengthening shampoo, and moisturizing conditioner. The 400-ml high-density polyethylene bottle was topped with a convenient-to-use flip-top closure.
Giving Bottles an Upscale Treatment
DieterBakic’s new Kimono bottle has an elegant, minimalist appeal. It complements the supplier’s other standard packages.DieterBakicEnterprises (Munich) has launched two new standard bottles for treatment products and other skin and hair care items.
The Kimono bottle features elegant curves and clean lines. The 250-ml bottle is available in a wide range of materials and with numerous decorating options. It can be topped off with the supplier’s new Lupo flip-top cap, as well as with a screw cap. The Kimono bottle complements DieterBakic’s Kyoto line of tottles and jars.
The Nagano bottle has a soft, rounded shape. Available in a 250-ml size, the monolayer bottle is offered in various colors, materials, and with numerous decorating options. It can be paired with the supplier’s Loop flip-top cap.
Crown Risdon Stocks Up
Crown Risdon (Watertown, CT) announced that it now offers a complete line of stock packaging and mechanisms for lipstick.
The stock containers come in three standard sizes: Traditional, Trim-Glide, and SlimGlide. The newest TrimGlide design has a slimmer diameter but holds the same amount of product as the supplier’s standard-sized cases. The SlimGlide package is taller and thinner than the TrimGlide, and contains 30% less product. Both designs have an antipushback feature.
Special features include the Lip Duo package, which features two Traditional lipstick assemblies joined together by a connecting sleeve. Another special feature is the supplier’s ColorTouch elevating lipstick design, which allows the product to sit deeper in the case. Finally, the ColorSeal airtight case protects lipstick pomade from drying.
“Our expanded line of stock lipstick cases will give our customers more options for lipstick case design and creativity,” says Gary Fagan, director of sales and marketing, lip products, for Crown Risdon.
Gerber Delivers New Baby Foam
Adding to its skin care line for babies, Gerber has launched its Grins & Giggles foaming body wash for hair and body. The package features a WaterGuard WRF3 instant-foam dispenser from Airspray International Inc. (Alkmaar, The Netherlands).
The Gerber product follows the latest trend for instant-foam products for babies. Other recent instant-foam launches include products in the Playtex Baby Magic and the Johnson’s Buddies lines.
FiberMark Debuts Brilliant New Look
FiberMark (Brattleboro, VT) has launched Iridescents by Corvon, a line of packaging materials that can be used to customize a range of products including tags and point-of-purchase displays.
Iridescents by Corvon are available in 13 standard colors and can also be custom color matched. The coating, texture, and finish can incorporate a range of glossy or matte finishes.
Grand Opening for Saint-Gobain Calmar
Dispenser supplier Saint-Gobain Calmar held the grand opening of its 140,000-sq-ft facility in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The facility manufactures sprayers and dispensers for the personal care industry. It replaces the company’s plant in City of Industry, CA, where the offices of its personal care products division will remain.
“The San Luis Potosi facility is expected to produce approximately one-half of Saint-Gobain Calmar’s North America personal care product division’s total turnover of approximately $55 million to $56 million,” says Walt Witkowski, the firm’s executive vice president. “[It] will become the center of manufacturing for fragrance and cosmetics dispensers and pumps, such as the company’s Aria, Sonnet, and Melodie dispensers.”
strong>James Alexander Offers New Ampule
A new polypropylene swab version of James Alexander Corp.’s (Blairstown, NJ) standard polyethylene ampule is now available.
“We hope to be introducing several new plastics in the coming months,” says Francesca Fazzolari, president and CEO of James Alexander.
Like the supplier’s other ampules, the new ampule allows the user to activate the package by squeezing it, an act that ruptures the ampule’s internal membrane. Another squeeze then dispenses the product onto the applicator tip.
Prestige Label Opens Doors for Education
Prestige Label president Elisha Tropper delivers the opening remarks at the company’s Digital Dynamic event.On May 18, label specialist Prestige Label Company, Inc., welcomed dozens of label designers, buyers, and packaging engineers to its Burgaw, NC, facility for a day of education about the latest innovations in digital technology for label printing and converting. Industry experts from Prestige Label, HP Indigo, DuPont, Pitman, and Artwork Systems gave presentations about their companies’ technologies at the event, titled Digital Dynamic.
Prestige Label’s president, Elisha Tropper, spoke about how, at virtually every stage within the label procurement supply chain, digital technologies have improved the capabilities of label manufacturers like Prestige by reducing production costs.
Other speakers included HP Indigo’s Matt Gindele, who spoke about the emergence of computer-to-press digital printing. Paul Begntson, vice president of national accounts for Artwork Systems, demonstrated the benefits of working in a fully digital work environment. He also touched on PDF proofing. DuPont’s Wayde Clark provided an in-depth explanation of the migration from analog to digital plates. Tim Keegan, Prestige Label’s vice president of plant operations, gave attendees a step-by-step tutorial on high-definition flexographic printing. By request, Terie Syme, Prestige Label’s operations manager, delivered a presentation called Designing the Right Label for Your Product.
To wrap up the event, a roundtable discussion was held. Among other things, HP Indigo’s Vince Pentella, DuPont’s Jerry Palmer, and Artwork Systems’ Begnston discussed how their companies’ technologies complement each other. Tropper also explained how critical the shortening of the label supply chain is to all businesses along that chain, from retailer to product manufacturer, label printer, and material and technology vendors.
“We were excited to be able to host such a quality event,” said Tropper. “The participation of such key executives from top-notch vendors conveyed to our customers our unrelenting commitment to their success.”
ProSys Brochure Fills In Blanks
ProSys Innovative Packaging Equipment (Webb City, MO) has put together a new brochure on its RT40 and RT60 tube-filling machines. Both machines were designed for filling cosmetic and personal care items such as creams, lotions, and viscous pastes.
The RT40 has a standard drive for production speeds of up to 40 tubes per minute. The RT60 is a servo-driven machine with production speeds of up to 60 tubes per minute, or 70 tubes per minute with a drive upgrade.
DMI Makes a Splash with New Capabilities
DMI (Wharton, NJ), a contract manufacturer and packager of color cosmetics and personal care products, has completed the expansion of its Wharton, NJ, headquarters. The expansion includes an additional research and development lab dedicated to formulating water-based products such as creams, lotions, and gels.
“This expansion enables DMI to maintain its commitment to deliver turnkey solutions for our customers in all areas,” says Eugene Sylva, president of DMI.
Graham Expands to Serve Procter & Gamble
Graham Packaging Co. (York, PA) announced that it has purchased the assets of the container-manufacturing operation located on-site with Procter & Gamble’s production facilities in Kansas City.
The new site will allow the company to add new types of containers to those it already makes for P&G.
Alcan Sells Decoplast
Alcan Inc. (Montreal) announced the sale of its European Beauty blow-molded bottles business, Decoplast, to IPH Groupe Spid, a French company specializing in plastic conversion.

Taesung Opens in U.S.
Taesung Industrial Company, Ltd. (Kyunggi-do, Korea), a supplier of cosmetic packaging components, announced the opening of its United States sales office, as well as a new factory in Korea.
