On Display: Labels - Labels to Catch the Eye - A Look at Labels
Digital Printing
High-definition
digital printing can be used to print on nearly
any label substrate, including paper, film, foil,
card, and synthetic stocks. Digital printing eliminates
the need for costly setups and printing plates.
The process is a good choice for short runs, quick
manufacturing, and labels requiring multiple versioning
or variable information. Prestige Label Company,
Inc., Brooklyn, NY.
Multipage Solution
For
brands that need to claim active-ingredient and other
FDA-required information on labels, multipage designs
are a good solution. A supplier's FlexVision multipage
label has now been patented. It is suited for conformable
surfaces and pliable tubes. A flexible upper panel
opens easily due to a resealable pull-tab. Water-resistant
and consumer-friendly, the label provides additional
space for marketing information as well. Ampersand
Label Inc., Garden Grove, CA.
Synthetic Papers
A
manufacturer of synthetic papers has made two new in-mold
label (IML) grades available. The two products, YUPO
ISE105 and YUPO IUE105, feature such enhanced performance
characteristics as improved antistatic properties. They
were designed to accommodate an expanded range of blow-molding
applications and to facilitate ease of handling during
the manufacturing process. The grades reportedly enable
blow molders to run their production lines at lower
or higher temperatures without incurring blistering
or distortion defects. Yupo Corp. America, Chesapeake,
VA.
Scented Labels
Scented
labels are part of a company's specialty. Concentrated scent
is applied to a label's overprinting varnish in an even coat
across the web. A variety of scents can be outsourced from
the firm's prequalified suppliers. For adhesive-label stock
options, the company offers glossy white label paper. Plastic
film or foil can also be used. Graphics can be flexographic
printed. Precision Label and Tag Inc., Richmond Hill, ON,
Canada.
Multipack Labels
Labels
for multipack products are rotogravure printed on high-shrink
PVC material. An eight-color press is used. The labels
wrap around Unilever HPC's Dove-brand shampoo and conditioner
bonus packs. The company reports that multipacks allow
a larger volume of product to be sold by the manufacturer,
and they give retailers the opportunity to create appealing
point-of-purchase promotional displays and free up more
shelf space. Fort Dearborn Co., Elk Grove Village, IL.
Contract Services for Labeling
A
supplier of heat-shrinkable labels and seals offers
the services of its Contract Sleeving Division, which
can apply labels to a manufacturer's packages in-house.
Full-body sleeves and multipack bands are among the
label styles the supplier can provide. Materials include
PVC, PETG, and OPS. Rotogravure printing can be done
in up to eight colors. The sleeves can shrink onto glass
and plastic containers, such as cans and tins, in a
wide range of sizes. Ameri-Seal Inc., Chatsworth, CA.
