Color Connections - Today's color trends aren't all black and white.

Recently I've been struck by all of the pink and purple fragrances launched this year. A few on the list include: Avon's Pink Suede, Givenchy's Very Irresistible, and Calvin Klein's Eternity Purple Orchid. Gillette even launched a pink version of its Venus Razor. In terms of packaging, transparency is still a big trend—many of the products themselves impart the pink and purple hues.

Did package designers and product developers somehow know that consumers would feel drawn to these shades right now?

I called the ColorWorks design studio of Clariant Masterbatches to ask George Iannuzzi, account manager, about this color trend. Iannuzzi is also a member of the Color Marketing Group, which forecasts color trends 18 months in advance.

I asked him which colors are popular now, and why. Confirming my observations, Iannuzzi explained that subconsciously, we are all drawn to certain colors at certain times.
