Packaging Therapeutic Products: Pampering at All Prices

On September 30–October 2, the beauty packaging industry once again takes center stage at Health & Beauty America. Also known as HBA, the show is the largest North American exposition for the cosmetic, fragrance, and personal care industries. To be held at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, the 11th annual trade show will feature exhibits by leading suppliers of cosmetic, fragrance, and personal care packaging and products, as well as a host of conferences and special events.

Opening the show on September 30 at 9:00 a.m. will be the show's keynote speaker, Susan E. Arnold, president of global personal beauty and global feminine care for The Procter & Gamble Co. Arnold will address how to develop and market quality products to consumers with her speech, "Growing the Beauty Business–One Consumer at a Time."

The show's specialized pavilions are expected to feature more than 500 exhibitors including packaging, dispensing, and labeling companies. Formulators, contract fillers, and private-label manufacturers will also show their latest developments. For a partial list of exhibitors, please see the list at right.

In addition, this year's show marks the debut of HBA's European New Products showcase, which will display innovative finished products from the European market. The display complements HBA's International Pavilions, which include global companies and their offerings.

HBA will also host numerous marketing sessions and master classes that will focus on package design and development, marketing, point-of-purchase marketing, product development, and emerging technologies. Packaging sessions scheduled for October 1 include Adding Value through Great–Maybe Daring–Design; Labeling and Decorating: Putting the Right Face on Your Product; and Prestige Packaging within Your Budget.

In addition, on October 1, the Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association (CTFA) will moderate a special session called State, Federal, and International Regulatory Issues Affecting Cosmetics and OTC Drugs. Another special session called New Developments in Natural Ingredients and Products will be presented by specialists from Grasse, France, home to the largest collection of companies that provides botanical extracts.

At HBA's Industry Awards Dinner, to be held on September 30 at the New York Hilton Hotel, winners of the fourth annual International Package Design Awards will be announced. This year's awards, which honor innovative beauty packages, their marketing companies, and their suppliers, will also feature for the first time an award for a package designer.

Approximately 17,000 industry professionals attended last year's HBA show. For more information on this year's show, please visit www.hbaexpo.com or call CMP Princeton Inc. (Princeton, NJ) at 609/452-2800.
