Show Coverage: SouthPack 2003

imgCosmetic and personal care packaging professionals looking for the industries' most up-to-date offerings won't want to miss SouthPack 2003. Held this April 30–May 1 atthe Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, the event will display a range of materials, supplies, equipment, and services for injection molding, labeling, package decorating, shrink-wrapping, and thermoforming. In addition, conferences on market-specific packaging issues will take place throughout the show.

Beauty packaging professionals should take special note of SouthPack's Cosmetic and Personal Care Packaging Pavilion, sponsored by CPC Packaging. In the pavilion, show exhibitors will display the latest innovations in bottles, caps, closures, dispensers, jars, tubes, blister packs, pouches, bags, folding cartons, containers, and accessories. Suppliers that specialize in decorating services, labeling, coating, coloring, and finishing will also share their advances. See this page for partial lists of companies exhibiting within and outside of the Cosmetic and Personal Care Packaging Pavilion.

Estimates indicate that approximately 12% of SouthPack's visitors will represent the cosmetic and personal care markets. These include attendees with expertise in brand and product management, research and design, production and manufacturing, and purchasing.

Prior to SouthPack, on April 29 Women In Packaging will present its Leadership Summit at the Westin Peachtree Plaza. To register for the summit, visit the group's Web Site at www.womeninpackaging.org.

SouthPack, a biennial trade show, is hosted by Canon Communications llc. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For registration information, please visit www.southpackshow.com or contact Canon Communications, Trade Show Div., at 310/445-4200.

EXHIBITOR PRODUCTS

Expandable Label

img An expandable label with a resealable top panel provides up to three times the printing space of a nonexpandable label. Suited for round and flat-sided containers, the label can be printed with graphics. Weber Marking Systems Inc., Arlington Heights, IL.

Label Printing

img Merle Norman Cosmetics chose a container made from a supplier's Eastar AN004 copoylester resin for its Luxiva Timeless Age-Defying Makeup liquid foundation. Even with the bottle's thick walls, the copolyester retains a crystal-like clarity similar to glass. The bottle's walls were blow molded in a range of thicknesses, from 0.50 to 0.150 in. Eastar copolyester is also chemical resistant. Eastman Chemical Co., Kingsport, TN.

Packaging Machinery

img A label supplier has enhanced its high-definition flexographic printing capabilities with the installation of a state-of-the-art digital platemaking system. The computer-to-plate system is designed to be a more cost-effective alternative to gravure printing. The supplier also specializes in digital printing. Prestige Label Company, Inc., Brooklyn, NY.

Theft-Resistant Hangtag

img A hangtag was wrapped around the container for Goody Products' bobby pins, preventing the package from being opened prior to purchase. In addition to allowing the container to be hung or displayed on a shelf, the hangtag serves as a decorative label. The supplier's PrinTab hangtags are designed to be more durable than paper headers, blister cards, or fifth panels on cartons. Do-It Corp., South Haven, MI.

Folding Cartons

img A converter of premium folding cartons has more than 70 years of experience serving the cosmetic and personal care industries. Offset and flexographic printing are among the supplier's specialties. Finishing techniques offered include UV printing, hot-foil stamping, and embossing. Graphic design services are also available. Resolution Packaging, Marion, NC.
