WestPack's Cosmetic/Personal Care Packaging Pavilion will showcase the latest in beauty packaging.

This February 19–21, cosmetic, fragrance, and personal care packaging professionals can view these industries' latest advances at WestPack 2003. Hosted by Canon Communications llc at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA, WestPack will focus on beauty packaging in the Cosmetic/Personal Care Packaging Pavilion, sponsored by CPC Packaging magazine.

In the pavilion, packaging suppliers will exhibit an array of cosmetic packaging. Among the accessories, components, and containers to be displayed are bottles, caps, closures, cartons, dispensers, jars, labels, materials, sample packages, and tubes. Suppliers will also share their up-to-date offerings for equipment, materials, contract packaging, designing, and decorating services.

Cosmetic packaging will also be the spotlight for many WestPack conferences, to be held February 19 and 20. On February 19, trends in package design will be discussed by Ping Li, principal and creative director for LiDesign. On February 20, Calvin Becker from Eastman Chemical Co. (Kingsport, TN) presents affordable options for luxury packaging. DuPont's Michael Decodts will speak on a number of packaging issues in Creating the Marketing Edge in the Cosmetics Market: Transparency, Soft Touch, and Endurance. Rosie Warda from Aromaland Inc. (Santa Fe, NM) will discuss the aromatherapy market.

Trends in personal care package design for markets such as hair care and teen products will be presented by Douglas Little from Sexy Hair Concepts, Laura Whittier from Girl Cosmetics, and Robert Wilkes from Monaghan & Co. CPC Packaging's group editor, Daphne Allen, will moderate the sessions on Thursday, February 20.

EXHIBITOR PRODUCTS

Tapered Contour

- Clear tapered bottles are fashioned to showcase a product's color. The bottles are available in PVC, in sizes of 4, 8, and 12 oz. PET versions are provided in sizes of 250 and 400 ml. Silk-screening, closures, and lotion and spray pumps are offered for customization. Lerman Container Co., Naugatuck, CT.

Filling Machine

A machine can fill bottles and jars with products such as cream, liquid, and shampoo. The Capmatic Conquest Monoblock FC-12-12 is a fully mechanical, continuous-motion machine that operates at speeds up to 250 bottles per minute. A fill-plug-cap version is also available. Glass Bottles

-Glass bottles are suited for body treatment products, hair serum, and lotions. Shown in the picture, left to right, are a number of recent projects. A 50-ml bottle with a 24-410 neck is topped with a lotion pump. The supplier's 1-oz Rupert bottle is pictured with a Norwich spatula-style cap. The 1/8-oz Trent bottle has a 13-415 neck and features a Grenada cap. The 1/2-oz Trent Magnum amber glass bottle is featured with a child-resistant cap. New High Glass Inc., Miami, FL.

Jars

-A supplier's Colt-Ainer and Colt-ier jars are available in a range of materials and sizes. Low-profile, slim-line, and pedestal-style Colt-Ainer jars can be made from PETG, polypropylene, polystyrene, SAN, or styrene, in single- or double-wall constructions. The stackable Colt-ier jars are also available in PETG, polypropylene, polystyrene, or SAN. Solid or window-style caps, compartment dividers, discs, and shakers can also be provided. Lockable Dispensers

-Dispensing pumps and fine-mist sprayers can be locked to make package transport more convenient. Among the Twist & Lock dispensers is an Up-Locking fine-mist sprayer that can be twisted into a locked position, without requiring the user to first push down on the dispenser's head. The sprayer dispenses product when held at any angle, including upside down. A Mini Treat Up-Locking treatment pump, ideal for travel-sized packages, is also offered. Emsar Inc., Stratford, CT.

Twist-Tip Vial

-A contract packager's plastic vial with a twist-off tip is suited for unit doses of gel, light cream, liquid, and lotion. Made from medium-density polyethylene, the one-piece Twist-Tip vial is offered in sizes ranging from 0.2 to 10 ml. Custom shapes, colors, and sizes are possible. Contract Packaging

-A contract packager specializes in unit-dose packaging of liquid products of various viscosities. Packages are made from foil, glass, and plastic, in styles such as pouches and thermoformed shapes. Sample-Sized Package

-A sample-sized fragrance package can hold 1 ml of product, for several applications. The Klocke Fragrance Wick features a twist-off top. The package is supplied with an applicator brush or a wick built in. Klocke of America Inc., Ft. Myers, FL.

Tapered Stock Bottle

-A stock bottle can be provided in sizes ranging from 15 ml to 4 L. The True-Pour bottle has a GCMI pour-out neck. Caps are offered in black and white. Logos can be screened onto the caps. Brad-Pak Enterprises Inc., Garwood, NJ.

Labels

A supplier can provide labels in a range of styles. Static Cling labels can be applied to a package without an adhesive. Coupon labels are suited for point-of-purchase products. Sample Mailer

-A mailer is designed to house a supplier's PaperBottle sample packets. The box accommodates one 30-ml PaperBottle or two 10-ml PaperBottles. Suited for a range of products including cream, gel, lotion, and powder, the PaperBottle is a 75%-paper constructed packet with a bend-and-tear orifice that allows the packet to be reclosed after use. Tube Styles

-Tubes and caps with various dispensing features are a supplier's specialty. Styles include a tube with an angled applicator for eye, lip, and skin products; an airless tube for sensitive product formulations; a dual-chambered tube to keep product ingredients separate; and Tandem, a large-diameter oval tube for body and hair-care products.
