Show Coverage: Cosmoprof 2003
The worldwide beauty industry takes center stage once again at the 36th edition of Cosmoprof, the international exhibition for perfumery and cosmetics. From March 7–10 at the fairground district of Bologna, Italy, Cosmoprof 2003 will host more than 1800 exhibitors representing the cosmetic, fragrance, and hair-care markets.
Cosmopack, the show's cosmetic, fragrance, and personal care packaging pavilion, will once again be located in Pavilions 19 and 20. Approximately 300 Cosmopack exhibitors are expected to show the latest in accessories, components, containers, machinery, materials, and services. For a partial list of exhibitors, see at right.
Cosmoprof 2002 saw 129,827 visitors and 1782 exhibitors, 267 of which were Cosmopack exhibitors. Color Packaging
Stock compacts were customized for Marks & Spencer's Enhance cosmetics line. The supplier has also created packages for manufacturers such as MAC, Yves Rocher, Avon, Bath & Body Works, Chanel, and Mary Kay. Cosmetic, Fragrance Packages
A supplier's packaging components have been the choice of many high-end manufacturers for products including Gucci's Eau de Parfum and Christian Dior's DiorShow mascara. Other offerings include a full line of stock color packages such as a dispensing package with three roll-on applicators and ergonomic makeup packages. Techpack, Chevilly-Larue, France.
Aerosol Can
An aerosol can with rounded contours is suited for such products as deodorant, hair spray, and shaving foam. The one-piece Boost can is designed to be ergonomic. Made of 100% recyclable aluminum, the can is airtight, watertight, and resistant to corrosion. Various colors, hot-stamping, and soft-touch varnishing are offered. Foam Dispenser
A dispenser combines a precise mixture of a liquid product and air to distribute the product as foam. Pictured on Colgate-Palmolive's Softsoap Foam Works package, the Table Top Foamer operates without chemical propellants. Airspray International Inc., Pompano Beach, FL.
Product-Protective Package
A package combines a multilayer barrier pouch with an airless, snap-on pump to protect sensitive creams and gels from bacteria, light, and oxidation. The Sof'Bag's all-plastic construction means that no gaskets, elastomers, or metal parts come into contact with a product. The pump accommodates viscous lotions and gels, and can distribute product when the package is held at any angle. Sof'Bag sizes of 50 and 100 ml are available. Rexam Dispensing Systems, Purchase, NY.
Rounded Compact
A rounded compact is suited for blush, eye shadow, and lip gloss. A flap on the lid makes the Solaris compact easy to open. Various decorating techniques are offered. The supplier provides custom and stock packaging for cosmetics, fragrances, and treatments. DieterBakicEnterprises, Munich, Germany.
Dispensers
A supplier's recently introduced dispenser prototypes include a super-low-profile fragrance pump. Fashioned to fit a low-profile overcap, the pump was designed to accommodate various package designs. The supplier's EcoFoam Squeeze Foamer is suited for a squeezable bottle, and dispenses product as foam when the bottle is squeezed. Emsar Inc., Stratford, CT.
Oval Shape
A supplier now offers its high-density polyethylene Meridian oval bottle in a 500-ml size, in addition to sizes of 200, 250, and 400 ml. The bottles are available in various neck sizes that can accommodate a snap-on Meridian cap, a lotion pump, or a sprayer. Cap, Collar
A cap and a collar were created for Prince Matchabelli's New Musk cologne spray for women. The lilac cap was molded from frosted Surlyn. The fragrance collar was made from polypropylene. Circular Bottles
Circular bottles with flat, tinted glass walls were created for the Varens Duo Floral and Poudré eaux des parfums. The Floral bottle was tinted green and features a rosy pink plastic ring.
