Risdon-AMS Holds Children's Competition
Risdon-AMS', Naugatuck, CT, fourth annual Designing Dreams competition awarded prizes to 11 children from the company's 1,300 employees for their creative cosmetic packaging designs. The winners were selected from more than 100 entries by a jury of three executives from major cosmetics companies. The competition was open to every child or grandchild, kindergarten through college-age, of a Risdon-AMS employee. "It's our way of encouraging the children to think creatively, learn from experience just what kind of work their parents are engaged in, and above all, have fun," says Tom Dunleavy, president. First prize was a home computer system; second prize, a PlayStation video game system; third, a CD/AM-FM player.
Sonic Packaging Relocates
Sonic Packaging is relocating its corporate offices. The move is being made to allow Sonic to grow its customer service and sales departments and better meet customer needs. Sonic's new offices are located at 35 Charles Street, Westwood, NJ 07675.
Shiseido Wins ORF Award
The Olfactory Research Fund Ltd., New York, NY, has selected Shiseido Cosmetics (America) Ltd., New York, NY, to be the recipient of their 2000 Corporate Vision Award in recognition of their Energizing Fragrance line. The Corporate Vision Award, ORF's most prestigious honor, recognizes corporations that have successfully applied the science of aromachology to product development and marketing strategies.
Leonard Lauder to be Elected to Circle of Champions
Members of The Fragrance Foundation, New York, NY, overwhelmingly voted Leonard Lauder, chairman, The Estee Lauder Companies, New York, NY, to be the first industry visionary and newsmaker to be elected to the newly-established Circle of Champions. The Circle of Champions Award will be presented annually to a company or individual who has made a notable and newsworthy impact on the fragrance industry within the previous 10 months.
Airspray Opens First US Facility
Airspray International Inc., Pompano Beach, FL, has opened a new 16,000-sq. ft. headquarters, which includes its first US production facility. Changing marketplace dynamics helped the company to build this combined production, warehouse and sales/marketing facility. The building will include a fully automatic assembly and packing function, as well as the ability to handle custom work and offer quality control.
Jeffrey Nugent Reveals Plan to "Revive Revlon"
Jeffrey Nugent, president and CEO, Revlon Inc., New York, NY, revealed his plan for "Reviving Revlon" at the Cosmetic Executive Newsmaker Forum in October. Nina Lawrence, publisher of Bride's magazine, chaired the event. Prior to joining Revlon in December 1999, Nugent served as worldwide president and CEO of Neutrogena Corporation, where he built a management team that led to the company's dramatic increases in global sales, product innovation and profitability.
Hazen Paper Launches Website
Hazen Paper Co., Holyoke, MA, a global paper converter specializing in film and foil laminations, gravure printing, specialty coating and embossing, has launched a new e-commerce site: www.hazen.com. Four ICMAD Award Winners Linked to Cosmetech Mably
The Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers & Distributors Association, New York, NY, recently honored six members for their achievements in business during the fifth annual Cosmetic Entrepreneur Awards for Leadership. Four of the six winners are associated with Cosmetech Mably International, New York, NY. Fred Seiden, president, CMI's International Division, won the Supplier Award for Entrepreneurs in Business for More than Five Years. Three of the other remaining winners are customers of CMI: Models Prefer Limited, Oxford, CT (Distributor Award, Less than Five Years); Face Stockholm Limited, New York, NY (Distributor Award, Greater than Five Years); and Heavy Duty Company, Carmel, CA (Manufacturer, Less than Five Years).
Alain Chavassus and Dieter Bakic Become Partners
Alain Chevaussus and Dieter Bakic became partners in the creation of a new group of Belgian law called Cosfibel. Cosfibel will initially invest in the field of flexible or semi-rigid plastic packaging dedicated to the cosmetics, food and textiles industries. The company has already acquired Grumbe, a producer of transparent plastic boxes, and Roskoplast, which creates transparent cosmetic and food packaging. Bruno Van Nieuwenhuyse will head the two companies.
Brooklyn Bow to Work with New Mills
Brooklyn Bow & Ribbon Co. Inc., Riviera Beach, FL, has formalized an alliance with European and Pacific Rim mills and labor sources to produce ribbons and bows at low cost. "Our customers want to see new and different ribbons," says Richard Hartman, president. "What we have done is to 'formalize' our relationships and commitments with these sources to ensure a continued stream of new and exciting designs and patterns."Brooklyn Bow also maintains a production and distribution facility on the US/Mexico border.
