BeautyWorld Cup 2000 Awarded

Annette Green, president of the Fragrance Foundation, received the BeautyWorld Cup 2000 Award at ceremonies in Frankfurt, Germany. The BeautyWorld Cup prize, conceived to honor particular achievements in the perfumery and cosmetics industries, was presented by Reinhard-Dieter Wolf who reviewed the role Green has played since 1961 in helping to build the fragrance industry in America. He also lauded Green's launching of the FiFi awards in Europe. AOL Teams Up With HBA Global Expo

America Online Inc. will present a special tutorial examining the latest developments in e-commerce and internet marketing for the cosmetic and personal care industries during the 8th annual HBA Global Expo in New York City. Entitled "Using the Internet For All Its Worth," this program will provide attendees with information from people who shape the way the internet works, as well as from companies that are already successfully marketing on the internet. Cici Kelly, AOL's director of business development, will lead this seminar whose topics include: Job #1: Getting to Know Your On-Line Customer, Building an e-Commerce Business: Reaching Women on the Internet, The AOL Women's Channel: What Works and What Doesn't Work and Using the Internet: Enhancing Your Brand While Cutting Marketing Costs In Half.

Caraustar Industries Announces New Corporate Brand

Caraustar Industries Inc., Atlanta, GA, announced that all of its products and services will be doing business under the Caraustar brand name. "Although owned by the company, the names of our subsidiaries and acquisitions such as Star Paper Tube, Atlantic Coast Carton, Federal Packaging, Oak Tree, Garber, Mid-State Paper Box and Tenneco Packaging were more synonymous with their historic identities than the Caraustar name. By using the Caraustar brand and logo, we are better able to communicate to the market the size and strength of our company," said Tom Brown, CEO, Caraustar. The company also unveiled a new logo to use on its products and will drop the word "industries" from its corporate name.

New Voting Procedures for "FiFi" Awards

For the first time, all fragrances introduced in 1999 are eligible to appear on the "FiFi" ballot. Ballots are then used to determine the industry's choice of the top three women's and top three men's fragrance finalists in each category, as well as the one men's and one women's "Fragrance Star of the Year." The top ten nominees in each category will be eligible to participate in the advertising and packaging judgings. Winners are based on each fragrance's "star" status through consumer response to its packaging, advertising and promotion.

Handmade Toiletries Network Launches

The Handmade Toiletries Network (HTN), the first and only trade organization dedicated to the advancement of the entire handmade toiletries industry, announced its formation. "Consumer interest in handmade toiletries has increased tremendously over the past few years, making this the right time for a trade network for the industry," said Donna Maria Coles Roberts, HTN's founder and president. HTN addresses issues of science, regulation, consumer education, marketing and public relations and provides services and networking capabilities to HTN members including legislative and regulatory updates, a speaker's bureau and career hotline.

Shorewood Comments on Court Decision

The Delaware Chancery Court rejected Shorewood Packaging Corporation's contention that Chesapeake Corporation is an "interested stockholder" and disallowed Shorewood's super-majority bylaw. Marc P. Shore, chairman and chief executive officer, says, "We strongly disagree with the court's decision and will consider an appeal. It remains clear to us that Chesapeake's goal is to acquire Shorewood at the lowest price possible-currently an inadequate price." Shorewood's Special Strategic Committee of Independent Directors recently engaged a financial adviser to assist in the process of exploring alternatives which could enhance their share values.

Airsprayintl.com Goes Live

Airspray International's website, www.airsprayintl.com, is now live and offers multiple language options and an Inventor's Corner. "The purpose of our new website's Inventor's Corner is to provide another forum for industrial designers and inventors to promote their packaging technology concepts," says Robert Brands, president, Airspray International. The website also provides information about the company, its product portfolio and financial outlook.

EXAL Argentina Receives Awards

Argentina S.A., manufacturer of one-piece aluminum containers, received two awards from Unilever Argentina. EXAL was recognized as their Best Supplier of Packaging Materials and as the supplier with the best innovative proposals for a finished product. Unilever Argentina presented these awards during an event entitled, "The Day of the Supplier."

EX-TRACT Awards

Several Best Product Awards were given during the seventh semi-annual EXoTRACTS trade show. Among the award winners were Jump Packaging LLC who received an award for outstanding creative packaging. The honorable mention winners in the same category were Zent by Indiado/DSH New Creations, Bambini Soul and Jaqua Girls.

Pratt Institute and LuxePack Gala Dinner

The Pratt Institute and LuxePack Monaco gala dinner took place at the University Club to benefit Pratt Institute's "Marc Rosen Packaging Design Scholarship." The event celebrated "The Art of Packaging" and the tenth anniversary of The Marc Rosen scholarship. Nicole Miller served as master of ceremonies. Pierre-Yves Maisonneuve, CEO of LuxePack Monaco, announced the launch of a New York event next year.
